00:00:00 I'm Robert Lang. I am here at the Star Studio in the Indianapolis Museum of Art, and I am here to fold a swallow. So, I will start by folding the paper in half from side to side

00:00:26 and unfold

00:00:33 and then I will turn it over and now that crease I just made runs horizontally, but I'll fold it in half from side to side again

00:01:04 and unfold.

00:01:12 Turn it back to the colored side, and now I will fold it in half from corner to corner

00:01:46 and then unfold, and the other direction from corner to corner

00:02:18 and unfold.

00:02:29 Now, I will take the raw edge and I will fold it up to the diagonal,

00:02:50 but I am not going to press it sharp all the way, the only place I will make it sharp is right where it hits this diagonal fold

00:03:06 and then unfold.

00:03:14 Now, I will bring the raw edge up to that mark I just made,

00:03:30 and again, I won't press it sharp all the way, I will only make it sharp at the diagonal

00:03:42 and unfold

00:03:50 and then I will bring the edge to that mark. This time, I will make the fold sharp all the way

00:04:08 and then unfold.

00:04:16 Then, I will rotate the paper and do the same thing.

00:04:24 First the edge comes to the diagonal,

00:04:48 press it sharp here,

00:04:54 unfold,

00:05:04 then the edge comes to that mark I just made,

00:05:17 press it sharp

00:05:24 and unfold

00:05:32 and then I bring the edge to that mark I just made

00:05:44 and this time I will make it sharp all the way across and unfold. Then, I will bring both edges together

00:06:06 and I am going to pinch the corner and take that extra little flap and lay it over to the side.

00:06:23 Press everything flat

00:06:31 and then rotate the paper,

00:06:38 and I am going to do the same thing. I will take this raw edge,

00:06:50 fold it up to the diagonal,

00:07:03 and press it sharp on the diagonal crease

00:07:16 and unfold.

00:07:24 Then, I bring the raw edge up the mark I just made,

00:07:38 press it sharp along the diagonal

00:07:48 and unfold

00:07:55 and then bring the raw edge to that mark and this time, I will press it sharp all the way

00:08:14 and unfold.

00:08:22 One more time,

00:08:31 I will take the raw edge

00:08:35 and bring it up to the diagonal,

00:08:44 press it sharp along the other diagonal crease

00:08:55 and unfold,

00:09:03 and bring the raw edge up to the mark I just made,

00:09:18 press it sharp where it hits this diagonal crease

00:09:29 and unfold

00:09:36 and then take the raw edge and bring it to the crease I just made,

00:09:53 unfold.

00:10:00 Now bring both edges end together on the existing folds,

00:10:13 pinch the little corner in half and lay it over to the side.

00:10:36 Now, I have to turn the paper over

00:10:44 and there are existing creases here and here, forming a cross. On this crease, I am going to fold the paper in half.

00:11:08 Then, I will take this corner and fold it down on the existing crease

00:11:29 and on this side I will fold the paper behind.

00:11:50 There is a small pocket here.

00:12:01 I am going to open out the pocket

00:12:10 and flatten it.

00:12:21 There is a small pocket here.

00:12:31 I am going to open out the pocket

00:12:43 and flatten it.

00:12:48 Now, I am going to lift this flap up

00:13:05 and as I do, I will fold these sides into the center line

00:13:54 and when both sides are in,

00:14:05 I run my finger around the outside and press it flat.

00:14:18 Turn the paper over,

00:14:26 and I will do the same thing. Lift up the flap.

00:14:52 I will fold the sides in

00:15:26 and press it flat.

00:15:47 Now, I am going to lift the flap up

00:16:00 and open out

00:16:08 the white layer to form a little cone

00:16:17 and I am going to turn that layer inside out,

00:16:23 so it's a little colored pocket,

00:16:36 pinch that in half,

00:16:44 hold these layers spread,

00:16:55 and fold that point over to the side and flatten it out.

00:17:04 pinch that in half,

00:17:13 hold these layers spread,

00:17:18 and fold that point over to the side and flatten it out.

00:17:29 Turn it over, and I will do the same thing on the other side.

00:17:39 Open up the little white cone,

00:17:48 turn it inside out,

00:18:03 and fold that layer over to the side

00:18:17 and flatten it out.

00:18:22 Turn it over, and I will do the same thing on the other side.

00:18:33 Open up the little white cone,

00:18:42 turn it inside out,

00:18:57 and fold that layer over to the side

00:19:11 and flatten it out.

00:19:18 Now,

00:19:23 one layer comes to the right,

00:19:43 and I will lift up the flap,

00:19:57 this edge and this edge line up

00:20:23 and then on the other side,

00:20:27 those two edges line up,

00:20:39 but I am going to hold that fold in place,

00:20:49 I will swing this flap down to cover it

00:21:00 and then flatten,

00:21:10 but I am going to hold that fold in place,

00:21:20 I will swing this flap down to cover it

00:21:31 and then flatten,

00:21:41 and this layer can actually swivel around, and I am going to adjust it to the angle that keeps these edges straight.

00:22:03 Now, I'll do the same thing on the other side. Fold one layer over,

00:22:22 the long flap folds up so that these edges are aligned

00:22:44 and down,

00:22:51 and then it folds up so that these edges are aligned.

00:23:08 This time, I will hold this flap in place.

00:23:13 I will bring the edge back down,

00:23:21 make sure that these edges are aligned in a straight line

00:23:30 and flatten.

00:23:36 This time, I will hold this flap in place.

00:23:41 I will bring the edge back down,

00:23:49 make sure that these edges are aligned in a straight line

00:23:58 and flatten.

00:24:03 Next, I will fold this edge underneath,

00:24:31 same on this side.

00:25:05 I will turn it over,

00:25:13 fold the edges in.

00:25:27 A little pocket forms here,

00:25:35 press it flat.

00:25:43 Fold the other side in the same way,

00:26:02 pocket forms and press it flat.

00:26:12 This tip

00:26:17 folds down

00:26:31 and then back

00:26:53 and the whole thing folds in half.

00:27:24 Tail flaps are folded up

00:27:43 and wings get folded up.

00:28:00 We spread the layers of the head

00:28:16 and press them flat.

00:28:30 We spread the layers of the head

00:28:46 and press them flat.

00:28:58 Then, we can open out the tail and the wings, and we have a finished swallow.
