Robert J. Lang demonstrates origami techniques in conjunction with Star Studio exhibition, 'Square-Folds-Life: Contemporary Origami by Robert J. Lang.' In this video demonstration, he creates a duck.
Hi, I am Robert Lang. We are here in the Star Studio in the Indianapolis Museum of Art. Today, we are going to fold a duck.
So, we'll start with the paper oriented like a diamond. I will fold it in half, along the diagonal
and then unfold it
and then we will turn it over from side to side.
Now, we are going to bring this edge in to lie along the diagonal
and the other edge to meet.
Turn it over.
Now, we will bring this corner over to that edge,
and then we will bring the corner to the middle of the edge again,
we unfold, bring the corner to the fold we just made
and then fold a little bit back
so that the paper makes a zigzag,
and we will bring this assembly together.
Next, we will turn the paper over
and we will fold everything in half,
all the layers together.
Now, with one hand, we will hold down near the bottom, with the other we will grab this flap which is the neck
and we are going to pivot it upward so that this angle is about forty-five degrees relative to this angle
and then squeeze it in half, set it down, and flatten,
that makes a neck.

Now, we'll hold that in one hand. We will grab the head with the other, and we pivot it up
and then pinch the back of it, set it down to make a head.

We take the straight edge
and fold it up so that it lies along the back.
We will turn the paper over, we will do the same thing on the other side,
and we have a finished duck.
