The Amazon Editorial Review states, "Today's challenge to the great divide between mass culture and modernism goes by the name of the postmodern. Huyssen argues that postmodernism itself cannot be regarded as a radical break with the past, as its artistic and political strategies are deeply indebted to that other trend within the culture of modernity - the historical avant garde. But neither can it be seen simply as a continuation of that ever renewed revolt of modernism/avantgardism against itself.

Today this could be called "Protectionism" and is a debated method of taxing imported goods with the intent of encouraging consumers to only buy nationally produced products.
