Spend time with Amber Laibe, an employee at the Indianapolis Museum of Art in an installment of this continuing series. Go behind the scenes at a major art museum to see what it takes to make it all work.
I have been here almost three years. My name is Amber Laibe, and I am the Affiliate Coordinator for the Indianapolis Museum of Art.
There are six affiliate groups at the IMA, and they range from Contemporary Art Society to Horticultural Society. They get together and have talks
and lectures that support the museum and support the mission, and I coordinate kind of from beginning to end with all of those...so it's full-time.
I also work on the MySpace for the IMA. So, if you are ever on there, chances are I am writing it or responding and
sending funny notes to people when it's their birthday telling them to come visit.
I just love Van Gogh's style, the thick brushstrokes and plus with him being Van Gogh, it's somebody you know about, you know Van Gogh,
you know he cut his ear off, you can get any of the reproductions anywhere and I have tons of them at home, but there is just something completely different about seeing it in person
and the depth to it and dimension that's fascinating, I think, and beautiful. I like this whole wall.
I don't have a door, as you can see, in my cubicle, so I have to put signs up sometimes asking people not to bother me because I have deadlines or what not.
"It's My Art" means to me that you can enjoy any of the work around the museum without having a favorite piece and just know that it's here for you and you can enjoy it and its beauty for what it is.
FYI - This video was made in 2006. Lots has changed since then! Feel free to email me for updates or to talk about the affiliates. alaibe@imamuseum.org.
