Queens Museum’s ebullient director, Tom Finkelpearl, launches the symposium by introducing the institution’s historic—and soon to expand—premises (which were built for the 1939 World’s Fair), its multilingual staff, and the extraordinarily diverse borough that it calls home (he points out that 138 different languages and dialects are spoken here). Finkelpearl also mentions the museum’s multi-year artists’ project Immigrant Movement, and discusses the significance of immigrant culture in general. [April 18, 2013]
