Ori Gersht recounts an emotionally charged train journey from Krakow to Auschwitz that he took in 1999, also describing the resultant photographic experiment and the White Noise series to which it led. A decade later, Gersht again explored ideas of journey, memory, and suffering in his two-channel film Evaders, which depicts an ephemeral figure attempting to cross the border between France and Spain. The figure is based on Walter Benjamin and his connection to Paul Klee’s painting Angelus Novus.
