Artist Carlos Motta discusses his interest in the way history is constructed, narrated, and disseminated, and examines the relationship of his collection work A Brief History of US Interventions in Latin America since 1946 to his larger multiyear project The SOA Cycle. In the latter title, he explains, “SOA” denotes the School of the Americas, a U.S. military training facility initially located in the Panama region. Motta also reveals the relationship of the imprints of hands in the work to the El Salvadorian White Hand Death Squad.
