On 9 September 2010, a debate was held in Museum Boijmans van Beuningen about the concept of ‘Cradle to Cradle’; the debate was organised in collaboration with Studium Generale Erasmus University, debate centre Arminius and the Goethe Institute. The debate was chaired by philosopher and journalist Hans Kennepohl, and artist Joep van Lieshout, philosopher Karim Benammar and chemist and Cradle to Cradle specialist Michael Braungart debated the relevance of this concept and human consumption. The debate was organised in response to the exhibition Internopolis (29/05/2010 – 26/09/2010). In an empty submarine wharf in the Rotterdam harbour measuring nearly 5000 m2, Atelier Van Lieshout created a chilling setting, in which medical instruments, vacuum pumps, silos, skulls, skeletons, giant sperm cells and organs played the leading role.
