Video Type

This video was created for LaunchPad, a program of digital interpretive materials that supplement the viewing of works of art on display in the Art Institute of Chicago's galleries.

In this video, two artists recreate a Delft vase from the Art Institute's collection employing the same time-tested techniques used to create the original. The entire process is illustrated, from preparing, shaping, and firing the raw clay to using cobalt for decoration. The leopards that appear on the lid of the original vase are enlarged to illuminate the painting process.
