Dynasty Handbag is the performance-arty-leotardation-comedy-psychic-meltdown-voiceover-stretchpants/antipants-lezbiananationalarmy vehicle of Jibz Cameron, from NYC. She has been described as an expression of pure queer id, a character that expresses anger and frustration with heteronormative power structures while also depicting the failures those expectations engender. In Remote Penetration, a semi-narrative performance film based on songs from her record Cosmic Surgery, she portrays a male drone operator whose "waves of violence" disrupt the calm of his nuclear family. Driven to despair, the character escapes the weight of his actions on stage, where he neurotically toggles between a cabaret singer and hair-metal demigod. Like her larger body of work, which encompasses elements of music, video, dance and theater, the film both valorizes performance and destabilizes it, skittering between disciplines and roles in an attempt to eradicate traditional notions of artistic autonomy. Plus, she's funny.
